Each year, the American Bar Association assembles a select group of associate construction attorneys, experts, and faculty veteran litigators nationwide for its annual Forum onConstruction Law Trial Academy. This month, Truss Faber’s Steven Vaughn visitedDallas, Texas, to participate in the intensive program, completing it with a day-long mock trial victory.
For three days, Steven engaged in rigorous programming designed to hone attendees’ litigation techniques, specifically for construction law. “The faculty consisted of over a dozen distinguished attorneys with extensive experience trying construction cases,” Vaughn said. “The daily opportunities to practice trial skills and receive immediate, substantive feedback from the course instructors and expert committee was invaluable.”
Truss Faber founder John Theiss said, “We believe in developing our associate litigators with quality experiences designed to strengthen their skills, which also benefits our whole team.” In addition to the mock trial, Steven tested his litigation practices related to trial advocacy, including direct- and cross-examinations, introducing evidence, jury selection, and delivering persuasive opening and closing arguments.
“At the end of the mock trial, the jury returned a verdict for my client, and we all know it was because of the closing argument I delivered,” Steven joked. “Kidding aside, I am grateful toTruss Faber for sending me and the ABA for offering this interactive experience.”
Settling back at Truss Faber, Steven is eager to share his insights with his colleagues, fostering the firm’s culture of continuous learning. “Every trial is an opportunity to learn and grow,” Steven said.“I look forward to applying everything I learned and helping us remain at the forefront of construction law.”
